A New Chapter for Pinarayi Vijayan: From Chief Minister to Renter
After a decade in power, the CPI(M)-led LDF lost the Kerala Assembly elections. Former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan moved into a rented house in Thiruvananthapuram, as he awaits a possible role as Leader of Opposition. The CPI(M)'s decision is pending Congress-led UDF's CM announcement.

In a significant political transition, senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan shifted to a rented property in Thiruvananthapuram after the LDF suffered a defeat in the Kerala Assembly elections. Despite an offer for a party-owned apartment, Vijayan and his family opted for a rented two-storey house.
Vijayan, who had recently resigned from his role as Chief Minister, was greeted at his new residence by his son-in-law and former minister P A Mohamed Riyas, along with CPI(M) leader V Sivankutty. The move marks a notable change for Vijayan, who vacated the official residence, Cliff House, soon after the electoral results were declared.
In the meantime, speculation arises about Vijayan's potential new position as Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly. Should the CPI(M) appoint him to this post, Vijayan would be eligible for the Cantonment House, the official residence that comes with the role. The CPI(M) is awaiting the Congress-led UDF's decision on its Chief Minister to finalize its own leadership choices.
