Former minister and four-term MLA Madhav Lal Singh has passed away at the age of 73, following treatment at a hospital. His condition had led to a transfer from a healthcare facility in Bokaro to a private hospital in the state capital just days ago.
Singh was a significant figure in regional politics, having won elections as an Independent in 1985, 1990, and 2000 from Gumia, Bihar, and later in 2009 from Jharkhand as a Congress candidate. His contributions have been recognized as integral to public service.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep sorrow at Singh's death and emphasized his valuable contributions. Soren announced state honours for the last rites, invoking Marang Buru to bring peace to Singh's soul and console his family and supporters.
