As suspense lingers over the appointment of Kerala's next chief minister, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday for critical discussions. The Congress leadership remains indecisive on naming a chief ministerial candidate, despite the United Democratic Front's sweeping victory in the recent assembly elections.
In a 40-minute meeting at Kharge's residence, discussed potential candidates were K C Venugopal, who enjoys significant support from Congress MLAs, V D Satheesan, favored by Congress allies and popular among public and party workers, and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala. However, no official conclusion was announced post-meeting.
As senior Congress figure Sonia Gandhi deals with health issues, delaying the decision, the party hopes to announce their choice by Wednesday night. Kerala marks the fourth southern state where Congress has secured power, adding to victories in Karnataka, Telangana, and a power-sharing arrangement in Tamil Nadu.
