The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has lashed out at Congress for its criticism of the government's decision to raise petrol and diesel prices amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. Bhandari argued that amid a global energy crisis, India's fuel price increase was relatively moderate.
Petrol prices in New Delhi have reportedly risen from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel now costs Rs 90.67 per litre, marking a significant surge attributed to the rise in Brent crude prices, which are currently above USD 100 per barrel. Bhandari compared this to sharper increases in other countries.
In contrast, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the government of extortion, claiming the hike would worsen inflation and impede economic growth. He also criticized the government for not reducing domestic fuel prices when international crude prices were lower in previous years.
