The Election Commission has announced a month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha, commencing on May 30. This operation aims to ensure accurate voter lists ahead of upcoming elections by conducting a comprehensive verification process.

Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, R S Gopalan, detailed that the initiative involves a thorough door-to-door verification by Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), scheduled to take place from May 30 until June 28. The revision process is set to expand polling booths from 38,123 to 45,255 across the state, as part of an effort to facilitate a more inclusive voting environment.

BLOs, alongside political parties who have appointed Booth-Level Agents (BLAs), will verify voter details, enroll newly eligible citizens, and address existing errors in the electoral rolls. The initiative will also remove names of deceased or relocated individuals and ensure no foreign nationals are listed. The final updated electoral rolls will be published on September 6, after the draft rolls are released on July 5.
