In a recent dramatic turn of events, BJP MLA Arjun Singh launched a scathing critique on Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee following her appearance at the Calcutta High Court dressed in lawyer's attire. Singh accused Banerjee of resorting to "strategic optics," asserting that her courtroom appearance was a politically motivated effort to curry sympathy amid ongoing allegations of post-election violence.

Singh's biting comments came in response to Banerjee's involvement in the hearing of a PIL, filed after the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, which alleged widespread violence targeting political workers. "Mamata Banerjee is trying to rebuild her image by posing as a lawyer, but her strategies will not sway public opinion. Bengal has moved past her leadership," Singh told ANI.

The post-poll violence case, initiated by advocate Sirsanya Banerjee, highlighted attacks and displacement of political workers, demanding immediate protection from the court. Additionally, Mamata Banerjee's courtroom appearance prompted the Bar Council of India to request details on her enrollment and status as a legal practitioner. The court dynamics unfold as the BJP's historic victory in the 2026 elections marked an end to the TMC's 15-year governance.
