In a significant political development, former Punjab minister Surjit Singh Rakhra has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as announced in a ceremony led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday in Samana.
Rakhra, previously a prominent figure in the Shiromani Akali Dal, switched allegiances due to disagreements over the party's handling of sacrilege issues, particularly with party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Mann hailed Rakhra's move as a pivotal moment in Punjab's political history, lauding his dedication to public service and his commitment to the newly enacted anti-sacrilege law, a key factor in his decision to join AAP.
