In the backdrop of the party's defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday held a meeting with its councillors of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) at her Kalighat residence here.
The meeting gained significance as the scheduled monthly session of the civic body on Friday was cancelled by the corporation's secretary through a notice a day before.
Party sources said Banerjee held the meeting to review the organisational preparedness among TMC councillors in the KMC, which is due for elections by the end of 2026.
The TMC enjoys a strong majority in the KMC, with its councillors holding 136 of the 144 wards.
Having lost the assembly election held last month to the BJP, the TMC is trying to rejuvenate its workers and leaders before the KMC polls.
TMC councillors also held an impromptu meeting at the councillors' club in the KMC headquarters on Friday after the House remained locked following the notice cancelling the session.
