Newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, officials said.

This was the first formal meeting of Adhikari with the home minister in the national capital where the two leaders discussed various issues related to security, border, illegal migrants among others, they said.

Adhikari took oath as West Bengal's first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief minister on May 9.

In a message posted on 'X', Shah said,''Met with the newly elected Chief Minister of BJP in West Bengal, Shri Suvendu Adhikari ji, and extended best wishes for his new responsibilities.''.

''Under the guidance of Modi ji and your leadership, the West Bengal government will continue to work tirelessly with dedication for the welfare of the people of the state and for good governance,'' he said.

The chief minister also called on President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi among others during the day.
