Kerala's former Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, has accused the central government of targeting opposition figures following a series of searches conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his rented home. The action is connected to the controversial CMRL monetary transaction case, which alleges wrongful payments to a firm owned by Vijayan's daughter.
Addressing the press, Vijayan maintained that these actions were intended to intimidate his party, CPI(M), and dismissed any potential impact these raids might have on his or his party's resolve. He argued that the moves, part of a larger pattern of using central agencies, aim to undermine opposition voices across India while claiming the Congress party's passive stance in such matters.
The early morning searches were described by Vijayan as persistent endeavors by the ED, while he reassured his supporters of his and the party's steadfast will. He acknowledged the ED officials conducted the searches respectfully, but questioned the motives behind their orders, implying political pressure from higher authorities.
Reports indicate that searches were carried out at multiple locations across Kerala under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, shortly after a court decision against dismissing the ED proceedings in the CMRL case. Vijayan emphasized the unwavering support from his party's workers amidst what he called politically motivated harassment.
