The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has achieved a significant milestone by securing over 48% of the wards in the recent Punjab civic body elections, fortifying its stance ahead of the state Assembly elections scheduled for next year. This triumph offers a substantial boost to AAP's governing credibility.

Following the electoral outcomes announced on Friday, the party declared the results as a validation of its four-year developmental initiatives under Bhagwant Mann's leadership. However, opposition claims of power misuse and manipulation during the elections surfaced, casting doubts on the legitimacy of the results.

In a contest involving 1,977 municipal wards, the AAP emerged victorious in 958, while the Congress party managed only 397. The elections served as a critical test for the ruling AAP, perceived as a midway evaluation of its governance in Punjab.

Among the eight municipal corporations, AAP secured decisive wins in five. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema confidently affirmed that the electoral success represents public approval of AAP's performance. This assertion is supported by their exceptional electoral showing even in territories loyal to prominent opposition leaders.
