D K Shivakumar to Step Up as Karnataka CM Following Power Shift

D K Shivakumar's lengthy political journey from humble beginnings in Dodda Alahalli village to the pinnacle of Karnataka's government is a tale of an enduring symbiosis with the Congress party. Known as the 'Kanakapura Bande,' Shivakumar earned his reputation as the party's reliable troubleshooter over the decades.

Shivakumar's breakthrough came in 1985 with a Congress ticket in the Sathanur Assembly, and his successes since then established him as a central figure in Karnataka politics, especially among the influential Vokkaliga community. Despite political and legal adversities, his commitment never wavered and led to significant roles, including the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president in 2020.

Under his leadership, the Congress rebounded remarkably in the 2023 Assembly elections. He also significantly improved the party's standing in the subsequent 2024 Lok Sabha polls. As political speculation swirled about a power-sharing formula in Karnataka, Shivakumar now prepares to assume the role of Chief Minister.

This leadership transition is set against the backdrop of internal party dynamics and previous agreements, highlighting a significant phase in Karnataka politics. On the legislative front, Shivakumar has promised to continue his work in urban development and water resource management as Deputy CM, pending his leadership role beginning June 3.
