BJP Criticizes Congress After Shivakumar's Leadership Appointment in Karnataka
The BJP questioned whether D K Shivakumar's rise as Congress Legislature Party leader would change Karnataka's governance, implying no shift in corruption allegations. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the impact of D K Shivakumar's elevation as leader of the Congress Legislature Party, following his nomination by outgoing leader Siddaramaiah. The BJP suggests this leadership change in Karnataka may not address the state's corruption issues, dubbing it merely as a 'change of face'.
In a statement, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla remarked that the appointment indicates Congress's acknowledgment of Siddaramaiah's governance failures, citing economic and infrastructure challenges. The opposition claims 'money power' influenced Shivakumar's rise, overshadowing Siddaramaiah's popularity among MLAs. Poonawalla queried whether the new leadership will prioritize genuine governance over political power.
The BJP also criticized the Congress for allegedly practicing double standards in social justice, pointing out the removal of the only OBC chief minister. Shivakumar is slated to assume office on June 3.
