D K Shivakumar has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, with his oath-taking ceremony scheduled for June 3. This comes after Siddaramaiah stepped down, paving the way for Shivakumar's unanimous election as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party at a meeting in Vidhana Soudha.

The meeting, overseen by AICC general secretaries, saw outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah propose Shivakumar's name, seconded by senior leader G Parameshwara. Shivakumar expressed his commitment to serving Karnataka's people with integrity. The decision concluded the power struggle between Siddaramaiah and the party's state president.
