The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has intensified its efforts in probing a signature forgery scandal allegedly involving the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee. The CID mobilized a five-member Special Investigation Team to scrutinize the purported forgery of signatures from TMC legislators.

The controversy centers around signatures on a letter dispatched to the Assembly Speaker for appointing the Leader of the Opposition (LoP). Led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the investigation aims for comprehensiveness. Notably, Abhishek Banerjee abstained from appearing at the CID headquarters, opting to send a formal letter via legal counsel instead.

The political stakes heightened as Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari criticized TMC leadership, underscoring that the legal process under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will rigorously address those involved. The timeline of this issue shows a sequence of controversial correspondences, prompting a formal complaint by two TMC MLAs that evolved into a police case, now under CID scrutiny.
