The Trinamool Congress (TMC), having dominated West Bengal politics for 15 years, has erupted into disarray post its electoral defeat. A stunning internal rebellion has unfolded, with Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee isolated as 58 of the 80 newly elected MLAs staked claim to the TMC Legislature Party's leadership.
Leaders Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha spearheaded the faction, bypassing anti-defection laws to establish Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition. In retaliation, the TMC High Command dissolved all party committees, purportedly for 'introspection', while asserting that signatures on the rebel petition were forged.
Despite the faction's actions, they maintain allegiance to party matriarch Mamata Banerjee, requesting her advisory role. Meanwhile, BJP leaders capitalized on the situation, framing TMC's turmoil as a collapse of dynastic politics and an inevitable consequence post-election defeat.
