The Delhi High Court has emphasized the necessity of clearing the Barapullah drain to avert severe waterlogging during the monsoon, ordering the demolition of Madrasi camp starting June 1. Additionally, the court has mandated the relocation of displaced residents to Narela.
A bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Manmeet PS Arora declared that the demolition should proceed systematically, with the rehabilitation of Madrasi camp residents being crucial for unblocking the Barapullah Drain. It was asserted that no rights beyond rehabilitation should be claimed, as the encroached land is public property.
The ruling comes amid efforts by authorities, including DDA, MCD, DUSIB, PWD, and the Delhi government, to address unauthorized constructions affecting the drain's functionality. Relocation activities are set to coincide with the distribution of possession letters and loan sanctioning from May 19 to May 20, while the actual move to Narela is scheduled before the June 1 demolition commences.
