In Jharkhand, severe rainfall has claimed four lives, notably a 10-year-old girl and two young schoolboys. The torrential downpour has caused significant damage across multiple districts, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
Among the incidents, an under-construction well collapsed in Khunti district, trapping two boys whose bodies were recovered after over 22 hours. In Ranchi's Tamar area, a girl died when her mud house caved in, while a woman was killed with her three injured children in West Singhbhum due to a house collapse.
Infrastructure damage included collapsed kutcha houses, bridges, and airport walls. Rising river levels prompted red alerts, while National Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed. The Weather Department forecasts further rain and potential flash floods, urging residents to stay vigilant.
