In a significant weather-related disruption, Himachal Pradesh has seen the closure of 222 roads, inclusive of a national highway, due to heavy rainfall, officials confirmed on Friday. This adds to the infrastructure challenges faced by the region, with Mandi district particularly hit hard.

The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that 144 roads in Mandi, including the crucial Manali-Kotali (National Highway-70), are among those affected. The monsoon season has not spared the state's essential services either, with 36 power distribution transformers and 152 water supply schemes impacted.

Since the monsoon onset on June 20, weather-induced calamities have claimed the lives of 82 individuals, left 34 missing, and have incurred losses of Rs 1,436 crore, exacerbated by 42 flash floods, 25 cloudbursts, and 30 landslides.
