Mega Poshir Dam Project Secures Funds from Municipalities

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region is set to bolster its water supply with the ambitious Poshir dam project, costing Rs 6,394 crore. This development, located in Karjat taluka of Maharashtra's Raigad district, requires financial contributions from key municipal bodies.

The Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC) has mandated the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and civic bodies from Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, and Badlapur to fund their respective shares for this essential infrastructure. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will contribute the largest portion, amounting to Rs 2,783 crore.

Driven by a need for an alternative water source to the Barvi dam, this project, when completed, will offer a storage capacity of 349 million cubic meters, enhancing the region's water access. Legislative approval was secured in March, and the funds will be utilized in the coming fiscal year.
