Punjab Farmers' Tractor March: A Show of Defiance Against Land Pooling Policy

On Wednesday, farmers across Punjab organized a tractor march to protest the AAP government's land pooling policy. The demonstration, led by Samyukta Kisan Morcha, saw participation in districts including Ludhiana and Amritsar, as they called for the withdrawal of what they termed an 'anti-farmer' policy.

Leaders from the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha backed the protest, asserting that the state's move aims to unfairly seize fertile land. They promised continued resistance until the government retracts the policy, which they argue exploits farmers under the guise of development.

The ruling AAP party maintains the policy supports farmers by providing residential and commercial plots in return for land, aiming for planned urban growth. Despite this assurance, opposition parties and farming bodies criticize it as a ploy to appropriate land at farmers' expense.
