The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) staged a protest march to the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, voicing strong opposition to the arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, governed by the BJP.
Nuns Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis, along with Sukaman Mandavi, were detained at Durg railway station following allegations by a local Bajrang Dal member that they were involved in the forced conversion and trafficking of three girls from Narayanpur.
Leading the protest, KPCC chief Sunny Joseph and Opposition Leader V D Satheesan, along with other senior Congress leaders, urged Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to convey the state's strong disapproval of the arrests to the central government. They demanded the immediate release of the nuns and condemned the arrest as an anti-democratic and unconstitutional action.
