Eastern Australia was engulfed in its heaviest snowstorm in decades, with the weather wreaking havoc across several towns over the weekend. The severe conditions resulted in flooding, stranded vehicles, and left thousands of homes in the dark, as per local authorities.
The New South Wales State Emergency Service reported that some areas saw around 50 cm of snow on Saturday, with others experiencing over 10 cm of rain. Several regions, including the New England North West, recorded their deepest snowfall in 20 years, according to Australian Broadcasting Corp.
Incidents surged, with over 1,455 cases reported, and more than 100 vehicles stranded in the snow. The wild storms damaged buildings, sparked major flood warnings, and a search continued for a woman swept away from a car stuck in rising waters.
