Metro Rail Corridor Advances in Hyderabad's Old City
The metro rail corridor project in Hyderabad's Old City is progressing with pillar marking and road-widening, minimizing affected properties. Compensation of Rs 360 crore has been disbursed for over 400 properties, and construction preparations like soil testing and DGPS surveys are underway, with plans to convert overhead lines underground.

The metro rail corridor between MGBS and Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad's Old City is gaining momentum, reckons Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited's Managing Director N V S Reddy, with key preparatory work in full swing.
Reddy revealed that the project has been carefully engineered to minimize the impact on local properties, reducing affected properties from 1,100 to around 900 through strategic realignment. Of these, 412 sites have received compensation, and demolition has concluded for 380 properties, with Rs 360 crore disbursed to owners.
The metro's groundwork includes identifying pillar locations about 25 meters apart and conducting soil tests. A DGPS survey was also completed to finalize pillar sites. Plans are in place to shift essential utilities like sewage, water, and power lines, with Telanganan's Chief Minister pushing for conversion of overhead power lines to underground.
