UAE's Record-Breaking Heatwave: A Scorching Summer to Remember
The United Arab Emirates is experiencing soaring temperatures, with August hitting one of its hottest records. This continues a global trend of rising temperatures, impacting outdoor workers significantly. Inland areas face highs above 50 C, leading to warnings against prolonged sun exposure during peak hours.

The United Arab Emirates is grappling with soaring temperatures this summer, following the country's hottest spring on record. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), temperatures have nearly reached historic highs, part of an alarming global trend of rising temperatures.
On August 1, the desert town of Sweihan recorded a sweltering 51.8 C (125.2 F), the highest since 2021 and just shy of the UAE's all-time high set in 2002. Inland regions experienced daily temperatures above 50 C in June and July, while coastal cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi saw mid-forties highs.
The extended heatwave is expected to continue throughout August, with the NCM forecasting temperatures 0.25 C to 0.5 C above average. Despite warnings to limit sun exposure during peak hours, outdoor workers in construction and agriculture face continuous exposure, prompting calls for increased safety measures.
