Andhra Pradesh Minister K Parthasarathy has revealed plans to launch the state's major free bus travel scheme for women, termed 'Stree Shakti', on August 15. Aligned with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's election promises, this move seeks to empower women through enhanced access across various sectors, including jobs and academics.
The initiative will incorporate 8,456 buses, nearly 75% of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation's fleet, to serve women across the state. The minister confirmed the scheme's state-wide implementation, counteracting any rumors of district-only rollouts.
By facilitating free transport through services like Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, and Metro Express, the scheme is projected to aid 1.4 crore women annually and help families save up to Rs 1,000 monthly. This Rs 1,942 crore per annum project underscores Andhra Pradesh's commitment to women's development and empowerment.
