In a devastating turn of events, heavy rains have forced the suspension of the Kinnaur Kailash Yatra in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district, with officials reporting two fatalities. The suspension follows extensive damage to the pilgrimage route, leaving 1,196 devotees stranded.
Prompt interventions by the ITBP and NDRF have led to the successful rescue of the trapped pilgrims using zip lines and alternate routes. However, the situation remains dire as weather conditions continue to deteriorate, leading to road and educational institution closures across the state.
The administration has urged residents to stay cautious, especially in flood-prone areas, with authorities releasing water from the Pong Dam to manage rising levels. Meanwhile, meteorologists predict continued rainfall, exacerbating the region's challenges.
