The Bahraich district is on edge as a wave of alleged wolf attacks has caused panic in Kaisarganj and Mahsi tehsils. In the past 20 days, two children have been killed and nine others injured, according to officials.
In response, over 100 personnel including police, forest officials, and experts have been deployed. A control room is operational, utilizing thermal drones and night-vision cameras, according to Dr Simran M, Conservator of Forest, Devipatan Division. Meanwhile, villagers are conducting their patrols equipped with sticks.
Tragically, young lives have been lost, such as Jyoti, age four, and Sandhya, age three months, both allegedly victims of the predator. The forest department is actively tracking two wolves via drone, but capture remains elusive. These incidents are a stark reminder of a similar threat last year, which prompted the government to declare the zone a "wildlife disaster-prone area" and initiate "Operation Wolf" to address the menace.
