With the monsoon season finally drawing to a close, the Public Works Department (PWD) is embarking on a massive road repair mission across the capital city.
The department has identified 12 crucial roads, connecting various city sections to the Outer Ring Road—one of the city's most congested transport arteries—for comprehensive refurbishing.
Monsoon-induced waterlogging has severely compromised several major roads, resulting in potholes and cracks that disrupt traffic and pose safety hazards for daily commuters.
'The post-monsoon condition of many roads has worsened due to water accumulation,' an official explained. 'Our focus is on stretches with high daily traffic and those crucial for linking the city's internal sectors to the Outer Ring Road. A tender process is already underway.'
The following roads are set for repairs: Timarpur Road, Wazirabad flyover to Mall Road, Lucknow Road, Polo Road, Bhamashah Road, Main Burari Road, Vishwavidyalaya Marg, Chhatra Marg, Shreya Mishra Marg, Sudhir Bose Marg, and Guru Teg Bahadur Road.
The upgrade and strengthening project is anticipated to proceed in phases over the next few months, with an allocated budget of Rs 45 crore.
Officials highlighted plans to use cutting-edge road-laying techniques and enhanced drainage systems to guarantee prolonged durability and prevent future weather-related damage.
The PWD is emphasizing continual monitoring and independent inspections to ensure quality and punctual project completion.
The Delhi government had earlier unveiled plans to refurbish 600 km of the capital's roads this year.
