The Delhi government is set to reinforce the power infrastructure in the Civil Lines area, a move intended to secure uninterrupted electricity supply to key VVIP locations such as Raj Niwas, the chief minister's residence, and the Vidhan Sabha. This strategic enhancement includes a new substation and a battery energy storage system.
Officials emphasized the importance of reducing dependency on the 400 kV Mandola source, deemed crucial for contingency planning. In a recent Operation Coordination Committee meeting, the need for uninterrupted power to VVIP establishments was highlighted, with the aim of establishing an alternative power source to mitigate any disruptions to the primary line.
The TPDDL has put forth a request to Delhi Transco Limited for an alternative source at the Timarpur 220 KV substation through the 220 KV Sarita Vihar substation. This initiative is expected to improve network resilience. Furthermore, a 400 kV substation at Gopalpur is planned to lessen reliance on Mandola, especially after past outages affected significant areas like north Delhi and the metro network.
