Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Hurriyat Conference chairman, has made a strong case for dialogue over coercion to address the ongoing issues in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly criticizing the existing measures that he claims increase public alienation.
Recently allowed to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid after being barred, Mirwaiz addressed worshippers, underlining that restrictions and pressure tactics are futile in resolving conflicts. He cited current bans and confiscations as prime examples of actions counterproductive to democratic principles.
The cleric urged authorities in both Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi to adopt wisdom and compassion instead of force, pointing out that constructive engagement and genuine dialogue are imperative for lasting peace and resolution of grievances.
