In eastern Nepal's Koshi province, at least 18 people have tragically lost their lives due to landslides induced by relentless rainfall that began on Saturday night. Six fatalities occurred in Ghosang and five in Mansebung, with seven additional deaths reported in various parts of Ilam district, according to police reports.
The Nepal Army has undertaken rescue operations, evacuating two injured individuals, including a pregnant woman, with helicopter assistance to Dharan Municipality for medical care, as confirmed by officials on Sunday. However, adverse weather conditions have significantly impeded these rescue efforts.
With the monsoon active across several provinces, including Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati, authorities have restricted vehicle movements in and out of Kathmandu and issued a red alert for regions around the Bagmati and East Rapti rivers. The ongoing downpour has also led to the suspension of domestic flights from Tribhuvan International Airport, affecting several major destinations.
