India-Norway's Pioneering Sustainable Ocean Planning Initiative

India and Norway are setting a global example with their joint efforts in sustainable ocean planning, reaffirming a commitment to integrate science and development for marine protection and growth. Initiatives such as the Marine Spatial Plan indicate a strengthened collaborative drive toward scientific decision-making.

Key advancements include Odisha leading the second phase of the initiative, marking a significant expansion from its initial implementation in Puducherry and Lakshadweep. The significance of this step was highlighted during a recent visit by a Norwegian delegation for collaboration talks in Bhubaneswar.

The India-Norway Collaboration Project on Sustainable Ocean Management, commencing in 2025, is a five-year framework seeking to enhance marine cooperation both geographically and financially. Joint efforts emphasize open data sharing and capacity-building to benefit global ocean management.
