A new management plan for the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in Delhi seeks to combat escalating forest fire threats. The strategy emphasizes establishing three specialised fire response units, fire lines, and GPS-equipped teams as key components.
Officials released the 10-year plan, devised with the Wildlife Institute of India, to guide the sanctuary's response from 2024 to 2034. Semi-arid zones around the sanctuary are identified as high-risk areas due to their flammable nature during dry seasons.
Proactive measures include developing patrol trails as defense fire lines and supporting firefighting with rapid response units outfitted with advanced communications. The plan incorporates community awareness initiatives and specialized training to enhance emergency readiness and biodiversity protection.
