Marathwada's water crisis is escalating, with more than 100 villages now dependent on tanker deliveries, an official revealed on Thursday. In just 10 days, 194 tankers have been deployed to supply water to 119 villages and 55 settlements across six districts including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, and Latur.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar tops the list with 128 tankers allocated to 86 villages and 19 settlements. Meanwhile, Jalna follows with 49 tankers, Nanded with eight, Parbhani with five, and Hingoli and Latur with two each. In contrast, Beed and Dharashiv have resorted to utilizing local wells for water supply.

Despite an increase in water storage levels across small, medium, and large projects in the region compared to last year, the situation remains dire. Currently, storage in 758 small irrigation projects stands at 26%, up from 16% last year, while the 11 large projects hold 47.47% of capacity, rising from 38% previously.
