The Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for several districts in Uttarakhand, anticipating intense rainfall and thunderstorms that will ease the ongoing heatwave. Areas such as Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli are among those expected to experience severe weather conditions.
Forecasts predict that storms will include gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph, as well as lightning and hail. Additional districts have also been warned of isolated weather turbulence. These alerts are in effect through May 29, with a subsequent yellow alert for May 30 and 31.
The State Emergency Operation Centre has instructed district authorities to stay alert and prepare precautionary measures. Vinod Kumar Suman from the Disaster Management department emphasizes the significance of avoiding unnecessary travel and urges residents to adhere to safety guidelines.
The public is encouraged to seek safe shelter, remaining distant from hazardous objects like trees and electric poles during the stormy period, while staying updated through official weather communications.
