Haryana to Enhance Water Supply to New Delhi by 100 Cusecs

Haryana has pledged to provide an additional 100 cusecs of water to Delhi through the Munak Canal, increasing its total supply to 1,000 cusecs. This promises some relief for the capital, which has been grappling with water shortages due to a dry spell and reduced reservoir levels.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed the water situation with officials from the Delhi Jal Board, detailing efforts to sustain water delivery. Although 8,500 complaints have recently been resolved, the government is exploring long-term strategies, including a pipeline feasibility study with IIT Roorkee and adding borewells to boost capacity by 10.5 MGD.

Immediate actions include deploying over 980 tankers and increasing the capacity to 6,000 daily trips to achieve short-term relief. The administration is also prioritizing rainwater harvesting initiatives to enhance conservation.
