Uttar Pradesh is embarking on an ambitious greening mission, Mega Plantation Campaign-2026, aiming to plant 35 crore saplings during the upcoming monsoon. The effort involves input from the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department, which is actively preparing 52.44 crore plants in over 1,900 nurseries.
This initiative, a continuation of the state's decade-long afforestation effort, will see major plantation activity along expressways including the Ganga Expressway. The forest department plans to cover 500 hectares with 5.50 lakh saplings, using species like Neem and Banyan. Additional plantations will commence around significant dates like World Environment Day, Independence Day, and other cultural days.
