The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Ministry of Jal Shakti plan to collaborate through a new memorandum of understanding to deepen the use of satellite technology in managing water resources. This agreement is expected to enhance assessment, monitoring, and management practices across 24 identified priority areas.
The MoU is slated for signing at the national workshop on R&D in Water on June 1 at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre. A key feature will be the announcement of MAHA on Water, a joint endeavor with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation to drive research in critical water management areas. Proposals for research under this initiative will be encouraged through an open call.
In parallel, the ministry will introduce an open call for startups and MSMEs via the BHARAT-WIN portal to foster innovation in product and prototype development in the water sector. The event will also launch Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari: Catch the Rain, a platform to empower community-led water conservation efforts.
The workshop will focus on integrating government, industry, and academia in strengthening India's water research ecosystem, exploring topics like groundwater management, irrigation, and climate resilience. It aims to accelerate innovation and provide a space for showcasing cutting-edge technologies and research solutions in sustainable water management.
