Team India captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket, closing a significant chapter in his illustrious international career. The 38-year-old made the declaration on Instagram, where he thanked fans and reflected on his journey in the sport's longest format.

Making his Test debut in 2013, Sharma has been a formidable presence in 67 matches for India, amassing 4,301 runs. His Test career highlights include 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with a top score of 212 against South Africa in 2019. As a Test captain, he led India in 24 matches, with a record of 12 wins and 9 losses. Despite criticism for India's recent performances, particularly the failure to qualify for the World Test Championship Final, Sharma also guided the team to the 2023 edition's final at The Oval.

While stepping back from Test matches, Sharma confirmed his continued commitment to India's One Day International squad. His departure from Test cricket signifies the end of a significant era, as Indian cricket bids farewell to one of its most graceful stroke-makers. (ANI)
