Announced on Wednesday, the chosen cities are familiar names from the 2014 Men's World Cup—Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, and Salvador—most lying along Brazil's iconic coastline.
Notably, the prospects of Sao Paulo and the renowned Maracana Stadium hosting the opening match and final are gaining support. Missing from the list are previous host cities like Curitiba and Manaus.
