Maro Itoje Makes History as First Black Captain of the British and Irish Lions

Maro Itoje has been appointed captain of the British and Irish Lions for their upcoming tour of Australia, making history as the first Black player to lead the team. Head coach Andy Farrell announced the decision on Thursday, highlighting Itoje's remarkable leadership capabilities.

The 30-year-old Saracens lock is only the third Englishman in nearly nine decades to helm the prestigious touring side. Itoje, a standout performer in previous tours to New Zealand and South Africa, assumes the role following an impressive stint as England captain in the Six Nations Championship.

With a game scheduled in Dublin against Argentina on June 20 and the first test in Brisbane set for July 19, Itoje steps into the captaincy role after Ireland's Caelan Doris was sidelined due to a shoulder injury.
