Graham Arnold Appointed as Iraq's New Football Coach Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Graham Arnold, the former manager of Australia's national football team, is set to be unveiled as Iraq's new coach this weekend, according to a senior official from the Iraqi Football Association. This appointment arrives just ahead of Iraq's crucial World Cup qualifiers against South Korea and Jordan next month.

Ahmed Al-Mousawi, an Iraqi Football Association official, confirmed that Arnold's contract negotiations are nearly completed and will be officially disclosed upon his arrival. Arnold is bringing a robust technical team, including a notable assistant coach with prior experience in the English Premier League.

Arnold, who guided Australia to the round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup, fills the position left by Spaniard Jesus Casas, who was dismissed after Iraq's 2-1 defeat to Palestine. Iraq currently ranks third in Asian Group B, and their upcoming matches will be crucial in their quest for World Cup qualification.
