Tim Paine, the former Test captain of Australia's Baggy Greens and current Adelaide Strikers coach, has been announced as the new coach for Australia A. According to ESPNcricinfo, Paine will take on this consultancy role for three series scheduled in the second half of the year, balancing his ongoing duties with the Strikers in the Big Bash League.
In his new position, Paine will oversee Australia A during three 50-over matches and two four-day games in Darwin against Sri Lanka A in July. He will also guide the team on an India tour in September and October, covering all formats of cricket. Additionally, Paine is expected to coach a one-off four-day match against the England Lions, anticipated to occur in late October or early November.
At 40, Paine has been credited with valuable experience as an assistant coach for Australia A and other development teams. He previously coached under Adam Voges and worked alongside the national development coach Lachlan Stevens. With Stevens stepping down, Paine will fill the vacancy, aided by new national pace bowling coach Adam Griffith, Australian women's team assistant coach Scott Prestwidge, and Northern Territory Cricket's Trent Keep.
