Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron has expressed confidence in newcomer Anshul Kamboj as a capable substitute amid Team India's escalating injury crisis, ahead of the fourth Test match against England in Manchester.
India faces a significant challenge with key players sidelined due to injuries. Pace-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is out with a knee injury, and promising pacer Akash Deep, previously instrumental with a ten-wicket haul at Edgbaston, is absent due to a groin niggle. With left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh's Test debut postponed owing to injury, Shardul Thakur takes Reddy's place, and Kamboj receives his international debut cap.
Aaron, discussing the situation with ANI, remarked, "Injuries are an inevitable part of a fast bowler's career. Kamboj shows a lot of promise." Kamboj, known for his consistent line and seam movement, has already impressed with his A squad performances against England Lions. Besides his bowling prowess, he's demonstrated resilience with the bat, creating an unbeaten 149-run partnership with Tanush Kotian.
In domestic cricket, Kamboj's record is impressive, leading to significant achievements such as taking all ten wickets in an innings against Kerala during the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. Meanwhile, Aaron, in the UK with India Champions for the World Championship of Legends, discussed their tough start after losing to South Africa Champions and a match cancellation with Pakistan.
Aaron remains optimistic, stating, "We are determined to regain momentum. Despite a rusty start due to a long playing hiatus, I am confident in our team's ability to perform strongly." The team faces Australia Champions next on Saturday.
