Ajay Singh, Chairman of the Interim Committee for Indian boxing, has resigned from his position to enter the forthcoming federation elections. His decision comes as World Boxing President, Boris van der Vorst, is set to oversee the election process.
Singh announced his resignation on Friday following the formal announcement of the election date—August 21, 2025. In his resignation letter, Singh stated his intent to ensure fairness in the election by stepping down. The international body, World Boxing, accepted Singh's resignation, appointing Fairuz Mohammed as the new Interim Committee Chairman.
Meanwhile, Anurag Thakur is expected to be Singh's main contender in the elections. The elections are crucial as they mark a shift towards an elected body after extended periods of administrative discord. Observers, including van der Vorst, will ensure transparency during the election process.
