As preparations for the 2025-26 Premier League season intensify, Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his predecessor Jurgen Klopp took time to reflect on the late Diogo Jota, whose tragic death in July left a void in the football world. The Portuguese forward and his brother were involved in a fatal car accident in Spain, as reported by Sky Sports.
Jota, who joined Liverpool in September 2020, was instrumental in securing the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season. The dynamic forward also played a pivotal role in Liverpool's journey to the 2021/22 Champions League final, which saw them narrowly defeated by Real Madrid. He contributed six goals in 26 appearances this season. Slot emphasized the need to replicate last season's fine margins battle with Arsenal in the upcoming campaign.
During a special showcase on JioHotstar, titled 'Preview of the Season 2025-26', Slot lauded Jota for his exceptional achievements on and off the field. "Jota was a champion in every sense, for his family, his beloved Portugal, and for Liverpool," Slot remarked. Klopp echoed these sentiments, acknowledging Jota's profound influence on team dynamics, stating, "Diogo was an outstanding player whose presence altered the way we played."
Jota's football journey began in Porto, playing for the Pacos de Ferreira academy, before moving to Atletico Madrid in 2016. However, he never appeared in a match for them and returned to Porto on loan. Wolves in the Premier League became his next home in 2018, under the mentorship of Nuno Espirito Santo. He debuted for Portugal in 2019 and was prominently involved in Euro 2022 and 2024, despite missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to injury. In May, Jota celebrated a second UEFA Nations League victory with Portugal, triumphing over Spain on penalties. (ANI)
