BCCI Introduces 'Serious Injury Replacement' Rule in Domestic Cricket
The BCCI has implemented a new rule for 'serious injury replacements' in multi-day domestic tournaments, debuting in the Duleep Trophy. This rule followed injuries to players in a recent India-England Test series. Serious injuries sustained during play will now allow a like-for-like replacement, pending approval from match officials.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rolled out a new 'serious injury replacement' policy ahead of the upcoming domestic cricket season. This pivotal amendment aims to address player injuries that occur during multi-day tournaments, ensuring teams are not detrimentally handicapped. The provision permits like-for-like replacements for players who sustain serious injuries during matches.
This innovative policy was introduced following injuries sustained by prominent players, such as Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes, in the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series. The BCCI's rule will be initially implemented in domestic events such as the Duleep Trophy, and the Under-19 CK Nayudu Trophy.
According to the new conditions, any injury must be during play, resulting from an external impact leading to issues such as fracture, deep cuts, or dislocations. Match officials hold the final say in approving replacements while ensuring fairness, and like-for-like conditions are maintained.
