ICC Rejects Pakistan's Demand to Remove Match Referee Andy Pycroft Amid Asia Cup Controversy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has turned down a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to remove Andy Pycroft as match referee for the remainder of the Asia Cup, despite the PCB's veiled threats to withdraw from the tournament.
Concerns arose after Pycroft allegedly instructed Pakistan's skipper Salman Ali Agha not to partake in a ceremonial handshake with Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav at the start of their match, igniting diplomatic tensions. The PCB's withdrawal over protestations could lead to a significant financial loss of approximately USD 16 million, disrupting the cricket board's annual budget.
Efforts are underway to resolve the ensuing controversy amicably, with proposals such as appointing Richie Richardson in Pycroft's place for their upcoming game against the UAE. Despite the unresolved tensions, the ICC remains firm in its decision and continues to oversee the tournament proceedings.
