SAI Hikes Venue Tariffs to Protect Stadiums
To maintain the integrity of its facilities, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has introduced increased tariffs and strict penalties for organisers who don't return venues in good condition after non-sport events. New tariffs have significantly raised the cost of hiring these venues for concerts and other non-sports gatherings.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has announced a substantial increase in tariffs for non-sports events held at its Delhi venues, aiming to maintain the premium condition of these stadia. The revised charges, effective from September 18, see a drastic rise, with rates for hiring the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JLN) main arena jumping from Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
While Indian organisers face higher costs, international performers will find some relief, as their rates were previously as high as Rs 50 lakh. Additionally, SAI has implemented a stringent penalty system to ensure organisers maintain cleanliness and order after their events. Failure to comply may result in a penalty of 10 percent of the per-day tariff and potential blacklisting for future events.
The increased tariffs address concerns raised by athletes about the impact of non-sports events on training environments due to leftover debris and damage. The SAI's adjustments come after a notable incident following a concert by Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, highlighting the need for stricter controls.
